Top Open-Source Pentesting Tools for 2026

Share your favorite open-source tools for pentesting. Examples: Nmap, Metasploit, Wireshark, Burp Suite Community Edition. Why do you prefer them over alternatives?

I recently started using RustScan alongside Nmap — it's blazing fast for port discovery.

Wireshark is indispensable for traffic analysis. I also use tshark for automated capture parsing.

Burp Suite Community Edition works well for smaller web apps, but for enterprise projects, I prefer Burp Pro.

I agree, that's a good point. I’ve used a similar approach in my labs.

Nmap is still my go-to for initial network scanning. I combine it with masscan for fast enumeration.
